The adoption suits handled by this department are confidential records according to state law, and the public does not have access to them. While this department cannot reveal information on adoption suits filed, they can refer you to an agency that may be able to provide further information.

This department works closely with the two Juvenile Court Judges and a Hearing Officer at Juvenile Court, the District Attorney's Office, other state agencies and attorneys in filing and processing juvenile pleadings. Suits processed through this department include:

  • Adoptions/Surrenders
  • Petitions for Disclosure
  • Voluntary Transfers of Custody
  • Terminations of Parental Rights
  • UIFSAs (Uniform Intrastate Foreign Support Act)

The East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s Office is now offering the availability of Birth and Death Certificates at our Downtown location in City Hall only from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Certificates are available on a walk-in basis only.  No appointment is necessary.  Click here for more information.


Effective March 1, 2019, credit card payments will be accepted in our Suit Accounting Department for suit filing. 
The percentage rate cost for credit card payments will be 3.5%.
