Civil Appeals

Phone: (225) 389-4751

The Civil Appeals Department is responsible for preparing the appellate records for all Civil, Probate, Family and Juvenile records appealed from the 19th Judicial District Court, the Family Court of East Baton Rouge and the Juvenile Court of East Baton Rouge Parish to a higher court.

Once the order granting an appeal is signed by the judge and the necessary costs are paid by the Appellant, the return date is set. This department works closely with the judges' offices and attorneys to prepare the appellate records.

In addition to working on the appellate records, the department is also responsible for the transfer of suits from the 19th Judicial District Court to other parishes once the costs have been paid.

It has come to our attention someone has been calling residences of East Baton Rouge claiming to be with the Clerk of Court’s office and asking for Social Security Numbers. Please be assured that it is not the Clerk’s office making these phone calls – we do not make such inquiry calls and will never ask for your Social Security Number.
